Carol Jessen has spent summers in the Boothbay area since 1980. Now, after 30 years of teaching high school English, she is free to pursue her life long passion for painting full time. A native of St. Louis, she has had three one-woman shows in that area. She has also exhibited at the St. Louis Artists' Guild where she has won both cash awards and honorable mentions.
In Maine, Carol's work is exhibited at three galleries, including Gleason Fine Art in Boothbay Harbor and at the Birdsnest Gallery in Bar Harbor. Carol often says that the act of painting is like getting her eyes back, a graduation from the casual glance to the long, studied look at the color and light of the world around her. To really see takes as much time and practice as the process of painting, and is a gift that anyone can give to themselves. The painter is just lucky enough to be able to say with paint, "Look at what I saw today!"
