Jane Dahmen draws her inspiration from the coastal rivers, rolling fields, and woods of herNewcastle,Maine, home. “My ideas begin in the natural world, but once a work is underway, the paint itself on the flat surface takes on a life of its own. Rather than seeking to reproduce a scene, I am attempting to open my senses to an environment.”
Although Dahmen is a graduate of Maine’s Colby College, she has only recently become a full-time Maine resident. “The views along the Damariscotta River capture my heart and imagination. As I walk along the trails, I see paintings almost everywhere. Sometimes I take a camera and record what excites me. Other times I just walk and look.”
Dahmen’s work has been recognized in numerous solo and group shows in Maine and beyond. Her paintings are included in many corporate collections, such as the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and Readers Digest.
In 2002 Jane Dahmen paintings traveled to Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of the Arts in Embassies program. In 2005, she was selected as Maine Audubon’s signature artist in 2005. In September 2009 she was a featured artist in Maine Home + Design magazine.
