Jessica (Stammen) Ives grew up in Camden, Maine. She received her BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art and was named one of Glamour Magazine's Top Ten College Women of 2003. After September 11, 2001, Ives’ work as an artist-in-residence at Ground Zero in New York City earned her the Clark Foundation Fellowship with which she pursued her M.A. at NYU, combining work in the fields of art, religion, and public service.

Ives moved back to midcoast Maine in 2008 and launched a small design and retail business with her mom, Ellen Stammen. Their work has been featured on The Today Show and in multiple shelter publications.

In 2014, armed with her newly gained business experience, Ives transitioned into full-time studio practice. Today she maintains a vibrant online presence through her website, two blogs, Instagram, and a weekly small works auction hosted by DailyPaintworks.

As a painter, Ives works in a loose but representational style. As an individual, Ives is both thoughtful and spiritual. Through her painting, Ives seeks to express her relationship with the landscape -- specifically the landscape of Maine -- as experienced simply though the act of seeing, and more complexly through the act of recreational adventure. From pure landscape images to her "outsider" portraits, Ives’ work communicates a sense of wonder. Indeed, she is editor and curator of The Maine, an online publication devoted to "an artful dialogue about the wonders of the state."

Beyond her website, DailyPaintworks, and The Maine, Ives’ paintings may be seen at Gleason Fine Art in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Ives also teaches color theory through various programs, including those at the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland, Maine.

Jessica Ives believes in two truths. The first is from painter Charles Hawthorn: "It is beautifully simple, painting -- all we have to do is to get the color notes in their proper relation." The second is from colorist Joseph Albers himself: "In an age in which increased human sensibility has become such an obvious need in all areas of human involvement, color sensitivity and awareness can constitute a major weapon against forces of insensitivity and brutalization."
